The galah (Eolophus roseicapilla), also known as the rose-breasted cockatoo, galah cockatoo, roseate cockatoo or pink and grey, is one of the most common and widespread cockatoos, and it can be found in open country in almost all parts of mainland Australia. It is endemic on the mainland and was introduced to Tasmania, where its distinctive pink and grey plumage and its bold and loud behaviour make it a familiar sight in the bush and increasingly in urban areas. These are happily foraging in the front lawn of our house in inner suburban Melbourne.

This is a Red Chokeberry (Aronia arbutifolia), a deciduous shrub known for its bright red berries.    Berries: These bright red, berry-like fruits often remain on the shrub through the winter, providing food for wildlife. In the Spring, the shrub produces white or pinkish-white flowers before the berries develop. The foliage typically turns a brilliant red colour in the Autumn. They are commonly grown as ornamental shrubs in landscapes and also produce edible berries suitable for making jams and jellies.

Readings Carlton is a Melbourne icon, and has long been a gathering point for the Australian literary scene. It began life as a tiny stand-alone shop in 1969.
