MY SUNDAY BEST MEME #115 - CHALLENGE: SHADOWS

Welcome to the meme, "My Sunday Best", which is a photographic and creative meme that allows you to showcase your talents in imaging. Every Sunday, you can post here showing an image you have created using your camera, (and/or) image processing software, and/or painting and drawing in the conventional way and have scanned in.

SYSTEM GARDEN

The System Garden at the University of Melbourne was designed by the University’s first Professor of Natural History, Frederick McCoy in concert with architect Edward Latrobe Bateman in 1856. The garden is unusual because unlike a botanical or ornamental garden, the plants were selected and planted according to an evolutionary system of classification – hence its name, System Garden.

ART SHADOWS

This is a piece of sculpture in the "Heide" Modern Art Gallery in Melbourne's Heidelberg. It is by Australian artist Geoffrey Bartlett (born 1952) and is called: "Circus by the Sea" (1982). The photo also shows my self-portrait... :-)

YARRA FLATS CYCLING

Yarra Flats Park features 85 hectares of pastoral and heritage landscapes, natural bushland, wetlands, abundant birdlife and a number of informal picnic areas. There is a wood barbecue, picnic tables and shelters located near the car park.  Along the Main Yarra Trail is the Heidelberg School Artists Trail, which illustrates how artists a century ago (such as Condor, McCubbin and Streeton) interpreted the landscape.

Pedestrian and cyclist access is available from various points in the park at all times. Vehicle entry is available from The Boulevard, East Ivanhoe (Melway 32 B6).
Car park gates are open 6am to 6pm, extending to 9pm during daylight savings.
Dogs are permitted in the park but must remain on a leash at all times. Dogs are not permitted within the (fenced) Annulus Billabong Wildlife Sanctuary.

VASE SHADOWS

As the sun was setting and its light was filtering through the window, there was a moment when the light was just right for this shot. Although the room was quite dark, the vase seemed to be spotlit. The mirror above the vase reflects some of the sunset colours, too.

MURDOCH UNIVERSITY CAMPUS

Murdoch University is a public university based in Perth, Western Australia. It began operations as the state's second university in 1973, and accepted its first students in 1975. Its name is taken from Sir Walter Murdoch (1874–1970), the Founding Professor of English and former Chancellor of the University of Western Australia. Its campus grounds are delightful and the central courtyard ("Bush Court") is particularly beautiful and popular with students and staff.

CURTIN UNIVERSITY

Curtin University is a research-intensive public university based in Perth, Western Australia. Named after the former Prime Minister of Australia John Curtin, it is also the largest University in Western Australia.

Curtin was conferred University status after the legislation was passed by the State Government of Western Australia in 1986. Since then, the University has been actively expanding its global presence and currently has campuses in Sydney, Singapore and Malaysia Sarawak. Being a leading global institution, it has forged close ties with 90 exchange universities in more than 20 countries.

The University comprises 5 main faculties with over 95 specialists centres. Curtin is one of only two Western Australian universities to rank in the prestigious Shanghai Jiao Tong Annual Ranking of World Universities (2011). It is also one of the two Western Australian universities to rank in the Times Higher Education's 2011-2012 world university rankings. Curtin is ranked within the top 300 universities by QS World University Rankings 2011/12.
