RAIN, RAIN, RAIN

We've received quite a lot of Spring rains the past couple of days in Melbourne. Although it was much needed, we also had some unfortunate flooding in some suburbs, high winds with trees uprooted and interruption to the electricity supply in some neighbourhoods. In the western suburbs there was even a mini tornado that went through and caused some havoc.

WINTER IN MELBOURNE

Thus post is part of the Mosaic Monday meme,
and also part of the Seasons meme.

STILL WINTER

We're still in the middle of Winter, and there is cold, rain, long dark nights and woolen jumpers. Either the Winter is longer and heavier this year, or I'm getting older. And maybe I'm getting a touch of Torschlusspanik!

SUMMER STORM

Last Wednesday we had a very hot Summer's day with the temperature reaching 38˚C. In the afternoon a change rolled through and the temperature dropped dramatically as a Summer storm brewed and rain pelted down on and off for a few hours. Overnight the temperature dropped further to 18˚C...

UMBRELLA TIME

A TASTE OF WINTER

Late Autumn has arrived with a loud bang in Australia’s southeast, bringing wild weather, flooding and snow. The special delivery weather system straight from Antarctica has caused chaos across parts of the country and is set to continue. Rain has battered Tasmania and Victoria have copped snowfalls and freezing winds, causing havoc for motorists. Despite the rain I went for a walk in the Darebin Parklands this morning and as far as the waterbirds were concerned, the weather was OK...

AUTUMN RAIN

We've had some welcome rain lately after a long rather dry spell and it's been a timely reminder of how vulnerable we are to climatic changes. Human beings have altered the earth's surface, its atmosphere, the oceans, the soil, and these worldwide activities are taking their toll on our fragile ecosystem. Can we act in a timely manner to avert global environmental disaster? Time will tell...

SUMMER RAIN

The last couple of weeks we have had some unstable weather in Melbourne, with temperatures climbing up to 42˚C and then plunging down to 18˚C. Add to that a couple of Summer storms and rain, which at some stage really pelted down. Now this week we expect maxima in the mid-30˚C range. Still, to see rain is good and the gardens appreciate it after the hot days...
