OLD SAN DIEGO

Bazaar Del Mundo is located in Old Town San Diego and we visited this in 2001 during one of our trips to the USA. We loved San Diego and the admittedly touristy Bazaar del Mundo was nevertheless fun to visit, rich in Latin American culture and very enjoyable to stroll through and shop at. One feels as if one is visiting Old Mexico. Shops are bright and cheerful and filled with all of the products you would find if you were on the other side of the border. It is a well designed area with lots of plants, flowers, fountains and other attractions. Open air bazaars and fiestas are often held there.

SEAPORT VILLAGE, SAN DIEGO

Seaport Village is a waterfront shopping and dining complex adjacent to San Diego Bay in downtown San Diego, California. It is located at 849 West Harbor Drive, at the intersection of Harbor Drive and Kettner. It houses more than 70 shops, galleries, and eateries on 90,000 square feet (8,000 m2) of waterfront property. The Village contains several freestanding buildings in an assortment of architectural styles, from Victorian to traditional Mexican. It is designed to be a car-free environment, with four miles (6 km) of winding paths rather than streets connecting the various buildings. It is located in walking distance from the San Diego Convention Center and the cruise ship terminal.

Seaport Village was built on landfill over Punta de los Muertos (Spanish for "Point of the Dead"), where the Spanish expedition of 1782 buried those who had died of scurvy. In later years it was a railroad yard where goods and other materials used to come through the area. Seaport Village was developed by Morris Taubman. The center broke ground in 1978 and opened in 1980. It is built on land owned by the Port of San Diego. The facility is operated by GMS Realty.

More the 50 shops line the walkways. The shops are geared toward tourists, with merchandise ranging from cruise-ware and San Diego souvenirs to specialty vendors. Seaport Village is home to several bay-view restaurants. In addition, a food court and many snack stands are available. There is also a cafe aboard the adjacent, unrelated U.S.S. Midway aircraft carrier museum.

ZOO, SAN DIEGO

The San Diego Zoo is a zoo in Balboa Park, San Diego, California housing over 3,700 animals of more than 650 species and subspecies. Its parent organisation, San Diego Zoo Global, is the largest zoological membership association in the world, with more than 250,000 member households and 130,000 child memberships, representing more than a half million people. San Diego Zoo pioneered the concept of open-air, cageless exhibits that re-create natural animal habitats. It is one of the few zoos in the world that houses the giant panda. In 2013, the zoo added a new Koalafornia Adventure, providing an Australian experience.

It is privately operated by the nonprofit Zoological Society of San Diego on 100 acres (40 ha) of parkland leased from the City of San Diego, and ownership of all animals, equipment and other assets rests with the City of San Diego. The San Diego Zoo is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), and a member of the Zoological Association of America (ZAA) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). San Diego Zoo Global also operates the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research.
