Readings Carlton is a Melbourne icon, and has long been a gathering point for the Australian literary scene. It began life as a tiny stand-alone shop in 1969. The growing business moved to larger premises on 338 Lygon Street in 1982, making its final move to 309 Lygon Street, where it stands today, in 1998.

“A library is a good place to go when you feel unhappy, for there, in a book, you may find encouragement and comfort. A library is a good place to go when you feel bewildered or undecided, for there, in a book, you may have your question answered. Books are good company, in sad times and happy times, for books are people - people who have managed to stay alive by hiding between the covers of a book.” ― E.B. White

'M' IS FOR MOON

Lullaby

Sweet crescent moon,
Up in the sky,
Won't you sing your song to earth,
As she passes by?

Your sweetest silver melody,
A rhythm and a rhyme
A lullaby of pleasant dreams
As you make your climb.

Send the forests off to bed,
The mountains tuck in tight,
Rock the ocean gently,
And the desert kiss goodnight.

Sweet crescent moon,
Up in the sky,
You sing your song so sweetly
After sunshine passes by.

LONDON, ENGLAND

London is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames in the south east of the island of Great Britain, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. It was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries. Since at least the 19th century, "London" has also referred to the metropolis around this core, historically split between Middlesex, Essex, Surrey, Kent, and Hertfordshire, which today largely makes up Greater London, governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.

London contains four World Heritage Sites: the Tower of London; Kew Gardens; the site comprising the Palace of Westminster (first image below), Westminster Abbey, and St Margaret's Church; and the historic settlement of Greenwich (in which the Royal Observatory, Greenwich marks the Prime Meridian, 0° longitude, and GMT). Other famous landmarks include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, and The Shard. London is home to numerous museums, galleries, libraries, sporting events, and other cultural institutions, including the British Museum, National Gallery, Natural History Museum, Tate Modern, British Library, and West End theatres. The London Underground is the oldest underground railway network in the world.

London is also the setting for a myriad of literary works that are world renowned classics and which the second image below highlights on either side of the River Thames...
