OXEÍA ISLAND, GREECE

Oxeia (Greek: Οξεία) is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea. As of 2011, it had no resident population. It is the chief island in the southern group (the Ouniades) of the Echinades, part of the Ionian Islands. Oxeia possesses the highest point in the Echinades, 421 metres. It is situated near the mouth of the river Acheloos, off the coast of Aetolia-Acarnania. The island is around 5 kilometres in length and its width is approximately 2 km. The Battle of Lepanto took place near the island in 1571. In April 2012, it was bought by Qatar Holdings.

  3. How nice to own your own island. It sure seems big enough for some residents.

  4. I love the Greek Islands they are so pretty we've visited Kos and Zakynthos, also Rhodes ( but that is Turkish), bit of controversy over that so I'll keep quiet!
I remember the delightful aroma of wild herbs when we were strolling along a lane in Kos, it was majoram, so we picked loads of it.
From a local store we bought a small fresh chicken, some potatoes then back to our villa to , cook it, rubbed salt and ground black pepper into the skin with olive oil and lemon, whole bulb of garlic, halved and put in the roaster, into the oven for just over an hour delicious ! Also cooked the delicious Greek potatoes and green beans, then tossed in butter... even more delicious!
Such warm memories of a sunny Greek Island !
    Best wishes,
    Di,
