SMOKY SKY IN NEW ZEALAND

While travelling in New Zealand several years ago, we chanced upon a blaze, which led to some interesting effects in the sky. Bushfires are an ever-threatening risk in Australasia and we see more than our fair share of them in Australia. IN New Zealand, such fires are more likely to be due to burning off rather than bushfires.

This post is part of Sylvia's Skywatch Friday meme.

  4. In the fall and winter months (when the ground is wet) they burn the logging slashes near where we live. We get some of the same interesting smoke/cloud formations. We also get massive forest fires during the hot summer, mostly in the interior, but the hazy smoke often covers the sky. - Margy
